Creative Theory Agency has been working with Google to celebrate cultural moments important to their Black Googler community for several years. This year I was fortunate to be the creative lead tasked with bringing both Black History Month and Juneteenth 2023 moments to life.

Project goals included driving awareness to:

  • Google’s internal and external BHM + Juneteenth initiatives

  • Create a moment of inclusion for Black Googler community

  • Google’s commitment to the Black community and businesses.

  • Create a unified look and feel for all 2023 BHM and Juneteenth assets

The 2023 theme for BHM, “It Takes a Village” was the launchpad for creative concepting rooted in community and Blackness emphasized by symbolic hand gestures. The final campaign creative selected by our client partners is a refreshing take in the visual space for the month of February and centers all the ways collaboration and connection makes the Black community thrive. In September 2023, this work was awarded three Creative Communications Awards (C2A).

For Juneteenth and Google’s Global Black Summit, themes were “Reflections of Freedom” and “Expressions of Excellence” respectively. The wordmark and creative elements developed were inspired by 1960s typography and poster styles.

The immense deliverables list included logos, brand + brand guidelines, slide deck templates, social media templates along with two videos and motion interstitials for Juneteenth and the Global Black Summit. Each campaign was built for the internal Google community with a potential for amplification across 650+ social media handles.
